A Brush with Greatness

Through thick and thin, Artmart has always been there with the largest selection of acrylic, watercolor and oils brushes in all kinds of price ranges.

Winsor & Newton Brushes

Choosing the right brush is important and Winsor & Newton, has 150 years of brush making experience which has allowed them to create a number of brushes that are ideal for all mediums.

Winsor & Newton Oil Color Brushes – When choosing a brush to use for oil color, you need to think about a brush with hair that is able to move thick, viscous color e.g. Hog hair. However, if you plan to use thinners to alter the properties of the color you will then need to consider using another type of hair e.g. Sable hair.

Winsor & Newton Acrylic Color Brushes - Acrylic color can be used in viscous form or in a thinned down form, similar to (though not exactly comparable to) water color. The brush you select will depend on the style and technique you use and whether you need to move full bodied color or control flowing color. It is also common for acrylic painters to use Hog brushes or other natural hair brushes such as Sable depending on the style of their painting and the viscosity of the paint on their palette.

Winsor & Newton Watercolor & Gouache Brushes – Water color brushes are designed to control the flow of color. The perfect brush will have a fine point, the ability to hold and evenly control color and should be able to spring back into shape after every stroke.

As Gouache color has the same properties as water color, all our water color brushes are interchangeable with Gouache and the same brush characteristics apply.

We provide a variety of high-quality brushes made from different types of hair to help you achieve different effects.

Brush Care and Maintenance

Brushes are an investment. If used and cared for properly, your brush will last a long time and perform better. A few basic suggestions:

* Do not immerse the brush in paint up to the ferrule. Wet paint is hard to remove from this area and, if it dries, even more difficult.

* Remove all excess paint with a rag or paper towel.

* Never leave a brush soaking in water or mineral spirits for an extended period of time.

* Never let your brush rest on its head. There are many accessories available that will suspend your brush.

* Watercolor and acrylic paint should be cleaned with mild soap and water. Oil paint should be first cleaned with mineral spirits or turpentine and then with soap
and water.

* After cleaning, remove excess water, reshape the hairs into place with you fingers, and stand the brush upright on the handle to dry.

A little effort will protect your brush and save you money .
