Spring has sprung, and the beautiful blooms and weather of the season are a great time to get outdoors and be inspired. Be sure to add these great, upcoming art events to your calendar!
May 4: Cinco De Mayo: A Cherokee Street Festival
While this annual tradition may be known primarily for margaritas, mariachis and lucha libre fights, the neighborhood’s many art galleries will also be open and on display. Celebrate the colorful Mexican culture along the Cherokee strip between Nebraska and Jefferson. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. The People’s Joy Parade presented by Community Arts and Movement Project will begin at its traditional time of 1:11 p.m., and all in attendance will be treated to a wide variety of papier-mâché floats, DIY costumes, moving installation artists and more. Crafty!
May 10 – 12: Laumeier Park Annual Art Fair, Presented by Emerson
A favorite Mother’s Day tradition, the Laumeier Park Annual Art Fair features over 150 juried artists from around the country, showcasing work in over 10 media categories. Artmart has also been a long time sponsor of this event for many years. You’ll see ceramics and painting – even woodworking, jewelry and digital media. If that’s not enough, the array of local food and beverage vendors may further entice you. Tickets are just $11 (but free for art enthusiasts under 11 and Laumeier Park Members), and all proceeds go to supporting Laumeier’s year-round calendar of educational events.
May 18: Taste of Maplewood
The festival is a culmination of Maplewood and Richmond Heights’ most renowned restaurants, beloved boutiques, and unique specialty stores. In its 11th year the event’s vibe is distinct and unmistakable, radiating the culture and character of the businesses in the area. In addition to the food and libations, visitors will enjoy live entertainment on two stages, and much more!
May 24 – 26: Schlafly Art Outside Festival
Like beer, art brings people together. That’s why Schlafly established Schlafly’s Art Outside Festival back in 2004. Hosted at the Bottleworks location in Maplewood, the event raises awareness and appreciation of art and music created in our very own community. Get closer to 15,000 of your neighbors, and get to know art without pretense. Artmart is proud to sponsor and support this event every year.
