Local Art Is All Around You in St. Louis!

If you’re new to St. Louis, you might know a few things about the city. You might know that the Gateway Arch adorns the “entrance” to the city right by the Mississippi River, that we have great sports teams and even greater sports fans, and that we have one of the best free zoos in the nation.

One thing that you might not really be aware of is how much art exists in the great city of St. Louis, especially at first glance. We’re not just talking about famous works of art that grace the walls at the St. Louis Art Museum – there are works of art covering building walls, adorning businesses walls within, and so much more. There is a vibrant art community thriving in the city, and we’re proud to be a part of it!

Julie Malone is one of these talented local St. Louis artists, as well as the owner and operator of SOHA Gallery on Macklind Avenue in South St. Louis. Her gallery opened in June 2011 and displays work from local artists including her own work, which is on permanent display. It is open Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

Before starting her own studio and gallery, Julie began her career as a digital designer in the decorative/laminate industry. We at Artmart were also very lucky to have Julie work with us for a time until 1999 when she made the move to pursue her lifelong love of painting. Now Julie builds, joins, and frames all of the surfaces she paints on, which are typically wood panels and composite surfaces. Occasionally, she will create a series of works on canvas or paper. Today, Julie enjoys spending time with her two daughters and being able to continue living her dream of painting.

Be sure to stop by the gallery and studio to enjoy a large variety of local artists who create stunning and imaginative works using various mediums. Below is a list of upcoming events and shows that you can attend. Be sure to tell your friends!
